Current AIAS National President Westin Conahan, President-Elect and AIA Illinois Student Director Charlie Klecha, and Past-President Matthew Barstow at AIAS FORUM in Chicago.

Charlie Klecha, AIA Illinois Student Director, has “broad and ambitious” goals for the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) after being elected to the student organization’s Presidency for 2014-2015. The election took place over the New Year’s holiday at AIAS FORUM held in Chicago.

In his nomination materials, he recalls his attendance at AIAS Forum in Savannah in 2012 as the moment he realized the organization’s power: “It awakens a latent potential for leadership, advocacy, and engagement that many students didn’t even know they possessed…The AIAS is our orientation to a career in the world of design for the few short years we’re in school. It’s an entire organization full of the most passionate, intelligent, and forward thinking students in design, and its members will lead us into the bright new future of design.”

Congratulations to Charlie! Kudos also to AIA Illinois’ 2012 Student Director, Ryan Gann, for pulling off a successful AIAS FORUM in Chicago as 2013 Conference Chair, and for also being a Presidential nominee.
